Sahasra Gunturi is a high school senior from California with an interest in chemistry and public health. Throughout her high school years, she has researched various topics in medicinal chemistry, public health, and regenerative medicine. Her work has been presented at conferences and recognized with awards. She founded Be the Change after observing how passionate students were about public health issues around them, but lacked the resources and platform to address them. Through this initiative, Sahasra aims to empower leaders globally with the tools, support, and resources needed to create tangible community impact using her experiences as a researcher and academic tutor.
The Be the Change Program is an online, structured, six-week research program designed for ambitious students interested in public health, health sciences, and community-based research. This program introduces participants to the health disparities in their community as well as social and environmental factors that affect people’s health.
Through interactive lessons, group discussions, and guided research from experienced mentors, students will explore a health issue affecting their community and develop their own idea for a unique, community-focused response. This could include proposing a research project, designing a community-based initiative, drafting a public awareness campaign, or creating a potential policy change.
At the end of the program, students will present their work at a formal research symposium attended by peers, mentors, and public health professionals. All participants will receive a certificate of completion recognizing the knowledge they gained throughout the program, and a panel of judges will be brought in to give awards to top projects.
